RC FPV Basic Setup

Before you go on reading this basic setup, and if you didn’t in touch with FPV before, may have a look at the basic info of FPV first. This time show you a basic setup with following FPV components. I picked following components as an example. Then, you can equip your rc plane, rc helicopter or rc car with FPV.

• On Screen Display: Eagle Tree Pro Video On-Screen Display Pro Expander
• Data Logger: Eagle Tree eLogger V3
• GPS: ETS-GPS-V4
• Micro Camera: 540 TV Lines CCTV Spy Camera
• Wireless Transmitter: Partom 2.4G Wireless Transmitter And Receiver

To wire up these FPV components is not difficult at all.

1. Connect OSD Pro, GPS and eLogger pieces together.
2. Connect the battery cable from eLogger to spare Rx channel (if no channels available, shared via Y cable with servo)
3. Connect video camera and video transmitter to OSD pro.
4. Install the OSD software and connect eLogger to PC via USB.
5. Follow your manual step by step to configure the OSD pro with different parameters.

Below is a picture for you to have a rough idea how they are connected, though not the same components.

Eagle Tree Pro Video OSD Pro Expander

The OSD Pro displays all the key in-flight information, together with many advance features such as flight simulator for testing, ,artificial horizon Display, RSSI, voice alerts, high resolution raster graphics, a new “RADAR” synthetic map, “Return to Home”, Artificial Horizon display, Acoustic Variometer, and waypoints within visual range… And you can choose which parameters to be displayed as you wish, after connecting with the corresponding Eagle Tree sensors.

All parameters available with the eLogger V3 and Data Recorders + optional sensors will be supported for display on the OSD Pro. Here are some examples:

• GPS Parameters (Distance to Home, Home Arrow, GPS Altitude, Ground Speed,Course, and more)
• Electrical Parameters (Pack Volts, Amperage, RX Volts, Servo Current, Milliamp-Hours, Watts)
• Performance Parameters (Airspeed, Barometric Altitude,  Climb rate, Variometer,Temperatures, RPM, G-Force, EGT, Jet ECU Status, servo positions)
• Receiver Health (Dropped Frames, Antenna Fades, Missed Packets – requires Spectrum or JR Flight Log compatible Receiver)
• Call Sign, and many more

Eagle Tree eLogger V3

It would continuously records volts, amps, watts, and milliamp-hours to enable pilots to analyze the performance of their electric power systems. In addition, it supports variety of optional sensors to record altitude, airspeed, component temperatures, RPM, and more.
The USB Live Mode allow you to see your rc model’s data LIVE on your computer.
